Matthew Donato

Executive Director, Center for Career Exploration, Associate Dean of the College


Matt came to Brown from Pitzer College in Claremont, CA where he served as Director of Career Services and Associate Dean of Students.  At Pitzer, Matt worked to strengthen career support for students, engage students with Career Services in creative ways, and redefine the way that students value Career Services during their time on campus and beyond.  He built partnerships across campus with faculty, Advancement, Admissions, International Programs, and Residence Life, to launch new career-related initiatives.  Matt was also a member of Pitzer’s Student Affairs Leadership Team, serving as a Dean on Call several times each semester.  He often met with students in crisis to provide support and access to helping resources, conducted judicial reviews into possible violations of the Pitzer Code of Student Conduct, and managed Title IX investigations.

Prior to Pitzer, Matt worked at the University of Chicago for nine years in a variety of roles.  His last position from 2008 to 2012 was as Director of Alumni Career and Affinity Programs.  In that role, he provided direct advising, employer and networking connections, and professional development programs to University of Chicago alumni.  He also managed the Chicago Affinity Groups program, that connected alumni back to the University based on shared professional interests and shared identities.  Before 2008, Matt worked as the Associate Director of Employer Development in the Career Advancement office and as a Leadership Giving fundraiser.

Matt graduated from Georgetown University in 1998 with a degree in finance (although he started college as a Biology major and nearly finished his Biology minor).  After working for two years at Tucker Alan Inc., a boutique litigation consulting firm in Washington, D.C., Matt moved to Chicago in 2000 to take a position at Bank One (now JPMorgan Chase) as an analyst working on tax-oriented finance engagements.  Matt made the career transition to higher education in 2003 and finds working to support students, alumni, and faculty to be very rewarding.
