The College

Stephen Crocker is Associate Dean of the College for Junior and Senior Studies & Recovery andSubstance-Free Student Initiatives. In this role, he supports undergraduate students working toward degree completion, as well as undergraduate, graduate and medical students and staff and faculty exploring recovery, substance-free living and/or reducing the harm of substance use.
Stephen has spent nearly two decades at Brown in a variety of roles spanning student support, communications, advising, and teaching. He has collaborated with students, faculty, and staff across the University and developed a deep appreciation for the many different paths students take through their Brown experience.

A person in long term recovery and a licensed clinical social worker, Stephen has worked with individuals and groups experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use challenges. His clinical approach emphasizes compassion, curiosity, and meeting people where they are.
Stephen holds a B.A. and M.A. from Brown University in Modern Culture and Media and an MSW from Boston University. He was awarded a Fulbright Research Award to Portugal, where he studied harm reduction and recovery communities. He is passionate about helping students build meaningful, healthy, and authentic lives during their time at Brown and beyond.
