Caroline McGuire
Biography
As Senior Associate Dean for Co-Curriculum, Caroline oversees a team of academic deans and professional staff responsible for co-curricular learning opportunities and programs that complement the Open Curriculum. These offerings include experiential learning, fellowships, pre-professional advising, and undergraduate research. Like all academic deans, Caroline provides academic advising and support for undergraduates.
Prior to joining Brown in January 2024, Caroline served for four years as the Executive Director of Enrichment Programs at the University of Connecticut, leading an advising team that supported student engagement in undergraduate research and creative activity, national scholarships and fellowships, pre-professional advising, and individualized and interdisciplinary studies. From 2013 to 2023, Caroline served as Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and worked to expand access to inquiry experiences for students across UConn’s campuses. Her higher education experience also includes academic department and graduate program management at the University of California, Irvine and teaching and advising roles at the University of Pennsylvania. Caroline earned an A.B. in French and Italian from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in Education (Reading/Writing/Literacy) from the University of Pennsylvania. In her free time, Caroline enjoys doting on her family’s four cats – Astrid, Gord, Bowie, and Stardust – and attempting gardening and all manner of crafts.
