Biography

As Associate Dean of the College for Class-Year Advising, Dr. Shaunté Montgomery collaborates with the Advising team to oversee and support advisor training, develop and execute inclusive academic and co-curricular advising for undergraduate students, and she works to recruit, train, and oversee faculty, staff, and peer advisors for the first-year and sophomore classes.
 
Prior to her work in this role, Dean Montgomery strategically developed and managed the day-to-day operations of the Brown in Washington Semester and Summer programs in Washington, DC. While in the DC office, she worked closely with the Senior Associate Dean of the College for Co-Curricular and Experiential Learning to maintain and strengthen a Brown University presence in the nation's capital. As is her focus, she worked to co-create a more student-centered and student-driven study away program for the students who were living, learning, and interning in the District.
 
Dean Montgomery earned her Ph.D. in English Literature from Howard University; she has many years of experience teaching Composition and Literature courses in Colleges and Universities across the country. Additionally, she has worked to advise diverse student populations while coordinating and overseeing the development and implementation of academic and co-curricular programs for first-generation, first-time/full-time, underprepared, underrepresented, and transfer student groups.
 
It is her professional aspiration to continue to co-create a culture of collaboration, connection, and care for the students that she serves.
